please help. looking for a loud, clear and bassy loudspeaker and found the mackie 215 and the macki 212 XT which have the same price. To note that am a begineer dj who plays in family parties etc, well up to 120 pax. so, which 1 to go with? the 215 seems to have more bass but is it worth sacrificing the other additional options on the 212 Xt to go for the additional bass on the 215?

A lot of truth in that statement. Tone is interactive with what you hear when you play, how you respond to it with your fingers and where your head directs that interaction. Tone is also a result of the type of gear you end up keeping around because it gets you to the tone you are chasing.

I just got the J-45 Standard Rosewood to complement my Taylor 314ce, the J-45 is amazing and I'm not easily impressed. Both the J-45 and the Taylor have very different voices and I really love having the versatility of both. The J-45 has a much warmer, deeper and well defined low end than the Taylor, while the mids on the Taylor are more clearly defined and the whole instrument is brighter overall. One thing I will point out is that, for my two instruments at least, the Taylor's setup from the factory was far superior to Gibson's. On the Taylor, the string height on the 6th & 1st strings at the 12th fret - low and high E - were set at 1.75mm and 1.25mm respectively (perfect), while the Gibson was set at just over 3mm and 2mm which is pretty high by any standard, and I had to do quite a bit of truss rod adjustment to get it down to 2.0mm and 1.5mm, which made a world of difference. So, when you buy a Gibson - and you 100% should - either know how to adjust your truss rod to set the neck/action (watch some youtube videos, it's not difficult) or pay the $50 to have it set up properly at the shop. I don't know why Gibson does this, when you play a guitar at the shop with action so high it feels hard to play, then you grab another guitar that's been set up correctly and it feels so much better, it's probably going to affect your decision, right? I think that's one reason Taylor sells so many guitars, they set them up correctly at the factory, put coated strings on so they sound fresh for a long time at the shop, and they really are excellent high-quality instruments. Gibson is every bit as good as Taylor, or better, but I think they would sell a lot more guitars if they followed Taylor's lead in factory setup and strings. That impression at the store is the most important thing when you're trying to sell a guitar and why wouldn't you want to show off your instrument at it's very best? This also applies to online sales, but in a different way - if you get a guitar online and it's set up badly, and you're a new player and/or have no idea about guitar setup, the guitar is going to be hard to play, you're going to frustrated and unhappy, your arm/wrist/hand is going to hurt and you'll probably give up or look for another guitar, leaving a bad taste in your mouth for that brand. I'd like to think that guitar manufacturers would want happy customers who will keep playing and come back and buy more guitars. I like your playing style by the way, very nice, thank you!

If I wanted to play a gibson these days, I'd buy a PRS cause gibsons best talent went there, if I wanted to play a fender these days, I'd choose G&L cause fenders best talent went there. Yamaha has good stuff but that ugly piccguard has to go! It's not me fault if certain individuals don't keep up with the Times.
